Coopen represents a participatory open innovation process with high social impact, designed to address pressing needs in the fields of sustainable agriculture, health and well-being, and circular economy. These areas align with the major challenges of international development cooperation and contribute to achieving specific Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Coopen is part of the Innovazione per lo Sviluppo program by Fondazione Cariplo and Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo. It has been implemented by Cariplo Factory, with contributions from JengaLab, the Tiresia Center of Politecnico di Milano, and Effecinque.

The program aims to create impactful solutions between Italy and Africa, encouraging the implementation of innovative projects in the participating countries. It also seeks to bridge the gap between the world of NGOs and the innovation ecosystem, fostering meaningful connections to address global challenges.
